Spitalieri (Spitaleri, Spedalieri) was one of the noble families of Bronte. Don Nicolò Spedalieri (1741-1831) son of Mario Spedalieri & Rosa De Luca, was mayor of Bronte 1803-1806. He married Francesca Stancanelli (baptized 9 Nov 1751); their chidren included Don Gioacchino Spitalieri (Spedalieri) (born 18 Aug 1786), who was also mayor of Bronte 1818-1820. Don Gioacchino married Donna Maria Carolina de Graefer (born 15 Oct 1794); their children included Baron Nicola Giuseppe Spedalieri (born Bronte 21 Jan 1812 - died Marseille 16 dicembre 1898). Meanwhile, there was Don Nicola Spedalieri (born Bronte 6 Dec 1740 - died Rome 26 Nov 1795), son of Vincenzo Spedalieri (born c. 1701) & Antonina Dinaro, grandson of Erasmo Spedalieri. He was a noted priest, theologian, and philosopher. In Bronte there is a square which to this day is named Piazza Nicola Spedalieri. To my knowledge, none of the Spitalieris mentioned above are related to me.
