Note Lorenzo's spelling of Siragusa.  Before 1820, the name was usually spelled Siracusa, with a C.  Around 1820 the spelling Siragusa began to appear.  My great-grandfather spelled his name Mario Siragusa, as did his first son Giuseppe.  But after coming to America in 1914, all the kids born here (starting with my grandmother born in 1914) spelled their name Siracusa. Thus, the name went from Siracusa, to Siragusa, back to Siracusa.
