Ancestors of Leonardo Antonino CIAMPA

Sixth Generation

32. Giuseppantonio CIAMPA was born in 1780/1 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). He died on 14 Mar 1828 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). Giuseppantonio married Maria IANTOSCA on 15 Aug 1812 in Montefalcione (AV), Italy. [Parents]

Giuseppantonio was called a "campagnuolo" (countryman or farmer) on some certificates, but on his death certificate he was called a "possidente" (land owner).  He died in his home on Contrada Verzare.

Giuseppantonio & Maria's children included:

* Angelo (my great-great-grandfather)
* Angela, who married Vincenzo Iantosca in 1839. (There was much intermarriage between the Ciampas & Iantoscas, as well as the Ciampas & Martignettis.)
* Carmine (1819-1835, age 16)
* Maria Giuseppa (1828-21 Aug 1829, age 18 months)
* Andrea Antonio (born 17 May 1813). Andrea married Angelamaria (Maria) D'Amore (born 29 Sep 1817) on 11 Feb 1841 and had THIRTEEN children:
    **Ferdinando (1842)
    **Beniamino (1843)
    **Feliciano (1844)
    **Maria Giuseppa (1847)
    **Antonio (1848)
    **Gaetano (1849)
    **Giovanna I (1851)
    **Stella (1852)
    **Nicola (1855) married Rosaria Pisano in 1881. Their son Antonio married his second cousin once removed, Consiglia Ciampa daughter of my great uncle Antonio Ciampa (b. 1876) & Consiglia Gensale.
    **Giovanna II (1857)
    **Giovanni (1860)
    **Carolina (1861)
    **Gennaro (16 Apr 1863). Gennaro married Clementina Ciampa (b. 1863). They had three children that I know of:
         ***Giovanni Ciampa 24 Jun 1891 – 24 Aug 1917 (died WWI)
         ***Olimpia Ciampa 13 Sep 1897 – 5 Jan 1968
         ***Carmine Ciampa 1 Oct 1909 – 12 Jun 1968
         (Note: Olimpia & Carmine married siblings, Antonio Martignetti & Teresa Martignetti,
         children of Federigo Martignetti & their 2nd cousin Rosina Ciampa (my great aunt).

33. Maria IANTOSCA was born about 1784 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). She died on 22 Feb 1840 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). [Parents]

Maria was listed as age 22 on her marriage certificate (1812), 21 on her son Andrea's birth certificate (1813), but age 56 on her death certificate (1840).

Maria and Domenica Iantosca were sisters. They each married a Ciampa; however, the two Ciampas were not related.

Maria was a "possidente" (land-owner).

[Child]

34. Marino MARTIGNETTI was born about 1769 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). He died on 22 Oct 1820 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). Marino married Giuseppina CIAMPA before 1804 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). [Parents]

His age was listed as 40 on his daughter Serafina's birth certificate. Oddly, his age is not given on his own death certificate.

He married Giuseppina Ciampa before 1809. (Unfortunately the records go back only to 1809.)

Marino was a "proprietario."

Marino & Giuseppina had at least two children:

* Tommaso (b. c. 1804). He married Carolina Baldassare in 1832. Their son Antonio Martignetti (c. 1834-1875) had a son Federigo (b. 1870), who married his second cousin, my aunt Rosa Ciampa, in 1894.
* Serafina (b. 1809) (my great-great-grandmother)

35. Giuseppina CIAMPA was born in 1775/6 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). She died on 8 Mar 1843 in Montefalcione, AV (Italy). [Parents]

36. Stefano TODINO was born in 1781/1785. He died on 9 Sep 1874 in Montefalcione (AV), Italy. Stefano married Mariantonia DI CIERO before 1822. [Parents]

According to his death certificate, Stefano lived to be 89 years old. That would put his birth around 1785.  However, on his son Raffaele's birth certificate (1822), he was listed as being already 40 years old.  This would have put his birth around 1722 -- making him 92 at his death!

On his death certificate, Stefano's profession was listed as "possidente" (landowner).  However on his son Raffaele's birth certificate, Stefano was listed as "maniscalco" (blacksmith, or farrier).

37. Mariantonia DI CIERO was born in 1788/9. She died before 1874.

On her son Raffaele's birth certificate, her name is listed as "Ciero," instead of "Di Ciero."  She is listed as being 33 years old.

[Child]

38. Giuseppe TRODELLA was born in 1782/1788 in Lapio, AV (Italy). He died on 27 Feb 1868 in Lapio, AV (Italy). Giuseppe married Carmina STATUTO before 1809. [Parents]

He & Carmina produced at least 8 children (including the two Maria Rosa's). Giuseppe was a contadino.

Ignazio was listed as a "possidente" (landowner) on his marriage certificate as well as on his son Raffaele's birth certificate, and a "proprietario" (property owner) on his son's marriage certificate.

Ignazio's wedding certificate (1 Dec 1827) indicates that he was 41 years old, and living with his son.

On Ignazio's death certificate, he is listed as the widower of Domenica Iantosca, and the son of Pasquale Ciampa & Livia Forcellati.

41. Domenica IANTOSCA was born about 1793 in Montefalcione (AV). She died before 1873. [Parents]

Strangely, Domenica's maiden name was listed as Ciampa on her son Raffaele's birth, marriage, and death certificates. Domenica's mother's name did happen to be Ciampa. However on Domenica's marriage certificate (1 Dec 1827) she is clearly listed as Domenica Iantosca. She was 34 years old.  Her occupation is given as "giornaliera" (a temporary worker paid by the day. In modern Italian the word would be "diurnista").

Domenica and Maria Iantosca were sisters. They each married a Ciampa; however, the two Ciampas were not related.

On his daughter's birth certificate he was listed as "Giuseppe di Fabrizio di Carmine." On the same document, and on his own marriage certificate, he was listed as a "possidente" (landowner). On his daughter's marriage certificate he is listed as "proprietario" (property owner). On his death certificate (1879), his age is listed as 80 (thus birth year 1798/9). On Carolina's birth certificate, Gennaro is listed as being 36.  Thus, he may have been born in 1789. In the death certificate of his wife Maria Incarbone (11 Feb. 1880), it says that Luigi's parents were unknown ("parenti ignoti"). ("Parente" is an archaic word for "genitore.")

Nunzio Vincenzo Spitaleri, son of Giuseppe and Antonina Imbrosciano, was baptized in Bronte on 17 June 1827. Oddly, a Nunzio Spitaleri, same parents, was baptized in Bronte on 24 Feb 1836. Nunzio & Gaetana's marriage certificate (5 Feb 1856), Nunzio's age is listed as 27 (putting his birth in 1828/9). Gaetana's age is listed as 22.

This was Gaetana's SECOND marriage.  Only one year before (13 February 1855), she married Signorino Ciraldo.

According to Nunzio's death certificate, and Nunzio Jr.'s birth certificate, Nunzio's profession was "pecorajo," a shepherd!  Perhaps that explains why he traveled all the way from Bronte to Mirabella -- 111 km (70 miles), a long distance in those days. He was listed as age 30 on his son Nunzio's birth in 1862.

61. Gaetana MELI was born in 1833/1835 in Bronte (CT), Italy. She died after 1884. [Parents]
